The church of San Antonio Abad

The origin of the most important building of the town dates back to 1305, when the archbishop of Tarragona granted the inhabitants of Portmany permission to construct a chapel and cemetery. Along with this, the quadrangular defence tower was also raised, which still stands today and shows the defensive character of Pisiusan temples of the Middle Ages. The building retains the original presbytery and inside contains numerous works of sacred art. In 2005, 700 years of history of the church of San Antonio were celebrated, restoring one of the two old cannons of the tower. In the temple's surroundings there are a range of shops, restaurants and bars.
