The beauty in simplicity

Simple, unique, and emblematic, the church-fortresses are without a doubt one of the hallmarks of the Pityusic Islands. Their peculiar architecture is due to the fact they were built prioritizing defence from the pirate raids that happened during the Middle Ages, therefore setting aside the artistic styles of each period. Of all the temples in the municipality, only the one of Sant Antoni de Portmany was erected during the 13th century and in accordance with these criteria. However, the churches of Santa Inés Virgen y Mártir, San Rafael Arcángel, and San Mateo Apóstol, built towards the end of the 18th century, follow similar architectural principles, even though by then the island no longer suffered any attacks. You should not leave Ibiza without visiting them. Each has its own special charm...
