The San Antonio Abad festivity
Is held on 17 January and celebrates the patron saint of winter
The San Antonio Abad festivity is held on 17 January and celebrates the patron saint of winter, which alternates with another festival Sant Bartomeu, the patron saint of the summer festivities. The church square, the seafront promenade, or the Passeig de ses Fonts boulevard host the festivities’ main events, welcoming thousands of people every year. The religious celebration features a packed schedule, with traditional Ibiza country dancing, known as baile payés, and the blessing of pets in public roads. The island’s oldest folkloric festival also takes place around this time of the year. The festivities programme also offers residents and visitors a wide range of cultural and leisure activities, with entertaining events like ‘Flower Power’, where everyone dresses up in 70s clothes.
